Acupuncture is a form of Chinese Medicine. It is based on the premise that the body has 12 channels of energy (the Chinese call this energy CHI) that flows through the body from head to toe or from your toes to your head. 10 of the 12 channels are, bilateral, meaning that there is a channel on the left and the right side of the body. There is one additional channel that runs down the middle of the body on the front and a 2nd that runs down the middle of the back. The Chinese have mapped out hundreds of points along these channels where the energy becomes stagnant or stops flowing. We use these points as the areas where we needle. By placing a very fine needle in the appropriate point, the energy that has become stagnant becomes stimulated and starts flowing again, thus clearing out the problem. Certain points have been designated to treatment certain conditions.
Typically, 15-20 needles are used for each condition. The needles are left in for approximately 10-20 minutes and re-stimulated ½ ways through the treatment time. A typical condition will take approximately 4-8 treatments before significant results are seen. But remember, some people respond sooner and some take longer before they see significant changes.
A treatment schedule of 1 time per week has proven most effective. It can be done more often if the patient would like, but less frequent typically results in regression of the progress made.

Please contact our clinic for pricing but the prices vary depending on if it is a local or systemic condition. A local condition would include headaches, low back pain, neck pain, knee pain, or sinus problems. A systemic condition includes acupuncture to quit smoking or lose weight. Because systemic conditions affect the entire body, the treatment is a little more expensive and time consuming.
Please plan to allot 30-45 minutes per visit. The needles are typically left in for about 20 minutes, but often, it takes a few minutes to get changed before and after the treatment.
